Main settings

Computer name is the name of the computer, which contains the network folder. This name must be exactly as it appears on the network. Note: If you specify the IP address of the computer, you don't need to fill this field.

Folder (share) name is the name of the network folder to connect to. This field is optional - if you do not specify the share name, you will be prompted to choose from a list with the available shares of this computer.

User account settings

If the network share is accessible by anonymous (guest) users, you can leave the User name and Password fields empty. Otherwise, you should fill the user name and password of your network account. If you are not sure, leave these fields empty. If the server requires user name and password, you will be prompted for them later.

Advanced settings

Computer IP address. By default myExplorer will find the IP address of the computer using its name. However, if your network does not support NetBIOS name service, you can use IP address instead of computer name.

WINS server IP address. If your network uses a WINS name server, you can specify its IP address here.

Troubleshooting

If you get an error while trying to connect to a network share, please go through these steps to resolve it:

  1. Check if the Wi-Fi connection of the phone is turned on and you are connected to the desired Wi-Fi network.
  2. Check if you have entered the exact name of the computer. Click here (external link) to see how to find out the computer name.
  3. If you get a "Share name does not exist on this server" error, please check if you have a valid network share on the computer. Click here (external link) to check how to setup a network share on a computer.
  4. If you get a "Invalid user name and/or password" error, please check if you have entered a correct user name and password to access the network share in question. Some network shares support access without user name and password but many shares require user name and password to protect from unauthorized access.
